Video art in Moscow's centre
Moscow will this month play host to an exciting season of film and video art to be screened on an enormous advertising billboard atop the Mosenegro building, opposite the Kremlin. The works on show will include offerings from international artists Artavazd Peleshan, Doug Aitken, Sarah Morris, Pipilotti Rist, Cao Fei, Yang FuDong and Agnes Varda; as well as the Russian premiere of a work by AES+F, previously shown at the 2007 Venice Biennale. The season, entitled Moscow on the Move, is the initiative of Dasha Zhukova’s Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture (GCCC), in collaboration with London’s Serpentine Gallery. Curated by the Serpentine’s Hans Ulrich Obrist, Moscow on the Move constitutes the GCCC’s first off-site initiative. “I think there are many busy people in Moscow and many of them may love contemporary art, but they may not have the time to go out to a museum,” said GCCC founder Zhukova. “Everyone is always in a rush, so I thought this would be a great way for people on their way to work to get a glimpse of these beautiful works.” Moscow on the Move continues until 22 December 2008.
